In the Hellenistic Roman World where much of the influence in the area of the Mediterranean Sea was influenced by the Roman culture, there was the prevalence of a particular cultural principle which is termed as Honor and Shame. Honor in that period of time had a different meaning to what we have today. It was related to being a good person and having all the best qualities. Honor could be gained in three ways like through ascribed, attribution, and achievement. In the passage from the book of Luke 13: 10 -17 we find that on the day of Sabbath Jesus heals the crippled women who have been in that way for eighteen long years. In such the synagogue leader gets angry on Jesus for breaking the Sabbath (The Holy Bible, 1994).
